We’re in the first week of spring! Are you excited? I don’t know if I can say I’m excited because it doesn’t yet feel like spring in Detroit, but I am ready for what spring will eventually bring: warmer weather and nature’s beauty that are great motivators to get rid of what I call the winter sludge.
The winter sludge is the mushiness that has occurred in our bodies from largely being sedentary in the winter. It can be slower digestion from eating heavier, softer muscles and skin from exercising less frequently or weaker organ function. Organs, such as the heart, receive less oxygen as the cold causes us to breathe more shallowly and our veins to constrict. And this constriction (vasoconstriction) can cause our blood to thicken, which can lead to poor circulation, toxic buildup and higher levels of sugar in our blood. Yes, it’s time to get rid of the winter sludge, and you can begin with the Foundations of Health:
Move: Stretch; take a walk; dance; workout at the gym. Do whatever you like to get your body moving and loose.
Breathe: Do deep breathing exercises, such as diaphragmatic breathing, to fill your lungs and blood stream with oxygen that you need to move blood to carry oxygen to organs and carry out toxins.
Rest: Lay still to calm your body and shut off your mind from busyness. Play music or think pleasant thoughts to release tension in your body and to relax your mind.
Sleep: Go to sleep early and long. We should go to sleep when we are sleepy and seek to get 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night. That may take some habit changes, like shutting off devices and not consuming liquids after a certain time, but it can be done.
Hydrate: Drink at least ½ your body weight in ounces of quality pure water. Staying hydrated lubricates hair, nails, skin, and internal organs, helps eliminate toxins, prevents brain fog and helps a host of other functions to keep you well.
Eat well: Eat a variety of nutrient-dense whole foods, especially produce, to get the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that the body needs.
Eliminate: When you move and get adequate air, rest, sleep, hydration and nutrition, your digestion will be well supported to help you eliminate toxins from all your eliminative organs like your bowels, kidneys and lungs.
Yes, you can do all these on your own, and please do, but I can customize a natural health plan just for you by hearing from you and observing and assessing exactly where your body needs support. If having a holistic health plan is something you want, make an appointment for one of my services. Take advantage of my packages and 21-Day Quick Cleanses that are 10 percent off now through May 1. Click here to schedule an appointment and use the code SPRING1O. If you aren’t sure which service is best for you, make a Discovery Call and I can help you to decide.
Let’s set a plan and execute it to get rid of the winter sludge to help us spring forward to good health.
